A stunning debut novel from Kate Ryan.

Convent-based author Kate Ryan‘s novel The Golden Book revolves around Ali, a teacher and mother of a young daughter, who learns of the death of her childhood best friend Jessie, many years after Jessie’s devastating accident at Mumbulla Creek Falls on the south coast of NSW in the 1980s. The news unlocks memories of that particular summer, forcing Ali to reckon with her own role in an event which shadowed and changed the direction of both their lives.

Praise for the book

‘An exquisite study of the liminal space between words and acts and the necessary redrafting of our life stories…’ – Myfanwy Jones, author of Leap.

‘A gorgeous evocation of the wildness of youth, and of what it takes to find love after disaster. Kate Ryan writes from the heart. Earthy, wise and profound. A beautiful resonant book.’ – Peggy Frew, author of Islands
