See the Abbotsford Convent come to life with classical music thanks to Music in the Round.
Presented by the Abbotsford Convent Foundation with Artistic Director Chris Howlett, this year’s program delivers Australian and contemporary works alongside festival classics. See the return of preeminent musicians, including William Hennessy, Ian Munro and Arcadia Winds, alongside luminary musicians making their Music in the Round debut, including Sophie Rowell, Julian Smiles, Stefan Cassomenos and Anna Goldsworthy.
From Mozart and Mendelssohn, to Brahms and Bach, curate your own concert experience.
Thanks to the award-winning team at Bursaria Fine Foods, ticket-holding concert attendees will receive a complimentary morning tea treat – a cranberry, chia and coconut muesli slice – on arrival. Pre-purchase a hamper, or book a premium ticket to enjoy front row concert seating and a beautiful lunch by Bursaria.
The program also includes a free outdoor performance by renowned pianist Rose Alea, and a complimentary ‘Draw What You Hear’ outdoor children’s concert, encouraging children to explore their creativity by drawing and colouring as they interpret the musical sounds they hear.

First held in 1972, Music in the Round was the Australian Musicians’ Guild’s annual showcase for Australian chamber musicians. It relocated to the Abbotsford Convent in 1977, after debuting at Monsalvat and then Werribee Mansion. It delighted audiences at the Convent for nine years, until 1985, when State Government planning decisions required the venue. In 2014, the Abbotsford Convent Foundation brought this event back to life as part of its tenth birthday celebrations to become a key event in Melbourne’s classical music calendar.
