Book launch, film screening and exhibition. A retrospective exhibition, celebrating the work of Mig Dann.

This survey publication of the work of esteemed artist and long-time Yarra resident Mig Dann which be accompanied by the film, Just Breathe in this immersive exhibition. Dann’s practise spans sculpture, film and installation, the Intimacy of Scrutiny delves into experiences of childhood trauma, feminist practice and queer culture.

Just Breathe is a film conceived and directed by artist Mig Dann and shot in the Old Melbourne Gaol in 2021. Just Breathe was filmed by cinematographer Jordan Kaye, with choreography by Zoë Bastin and sound score by Josephine Mead.

This publication is a testament to Dann’s lived experience. In the 1970s, Dann worked in the avant-garde art scene and popular music industry within New York’s counterculture. In the 1980s, she moved amongst the editorial circles of Paris.

By reflecting on the past, Dann explores the politics and poetics of time, memory and identity within the present.
