Presenting a selection of beloved European classics, ANAM musicians present a miniature festival jam packed with chamber music repertoire.
This first program, Sounds of War takes the listener to the heart of a creative process residing in the grim circumstances of war. Janacek’sCapriccio was an idea by a pianist who had lost an arm in WW1, Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time was composed at a prisoner of war camp during WW2. Stravinky’s Soldier’s Tale fuses elements of the Faust myth into a satirical expression of a multicultural community immersed in a conflict with itself. The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) is dedicated to training the most exceptional young classical musicians from Australia and New Zealand. It is the only professional performance training institute of its kind in Australia, and one of few in the world.
